The Answer and First Belly Pic

Wow! Who knew the trimester question would get so much response! I got everything from 12 to 14 weeks is the first trimester. So, I did what every good blogger does... I googled it. Again, multiple answers. One site even included a breakdown up to week 42. I didn't know there was a week 42! The consensus is that a trimester is 12 to 14 weeks long and because you are dividing an odd number into an even number you will not get a whole number (my math teacher husband taught me this). Soooo, the Mayo Clinic says the first trimester ends at the end of week 12, the second trimester is weeks 13-27, third trimester weeks 28-40 (or 42 for those who are not Swift women).

Did you know that at twelve weeks the baby can suck his thumb and hiccup? How cool is that! Even though the baby is only 2.5 inches long, its feet are 1/2 inch long!

Avoidance only lasts so long. For weeks, I've been telling myself that I needed to start taking belly pics but have been able to rationalize myself out of it. I finally caved. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing belly pics. I love it so much I've looked up belly pics of total strangers. I think they are fascinating. So, here it is. The only difference I've noticed myself so far is that the line of demarcation between Belly A and Belly B is disappearing and they are quickly "becoming one flesh." No one hurl, please! Hey Daddy, recognize the Pebbled Path walls?

I didn't know that about the feet being that long...interesting.

Now, I couldn't imagine a Swift actually making it to 42 weeks, or anyone for that matter! Think of how miserable that would be! Oh well!

Beautiful picture! Keep posting them!

Love you both!!!

The wealth of baby knowledge I am aquiring on this blog is astounding!!! ;)

And, yes, there are unfortunate souls that go beyond the 40 weeks. Jack was due December 26 -- they didn't yank him out..I mean, deliver him...until January the 5th - when he was 10 days old!!! Miserable is really too mild of a word for how I felt those 10 days.

We will pray for a safe & timely delivery for the Little Raindrop on his/her exact due date. Thus insuring the completion of the 3 trimesters (no matter their exact beginning & ending) and allowing time for those gianormous feet to catch up with the rest of his/her little baby body! :)

Have a great week 12!
Hugs from the Varnells

OK, I figure that MY trimesters were 9-10 weeks each - of course that is just par for the course when your name is SWIFT!!!!

Ha ha Sandra, so true! Let's hope the Little Raindrop makes a fashionably late entrance into the world.
