God's Plan is so Unique

When Shannon and I finally quit denying the diagnosis of "infertility," we started talking openly about it. I had only known (I thought) of a couple of people who had ever dealt with infertilty and felt very alone. Christian women especially don't talk about it. Not sure why. I think it might be because everytime you hear of someone becoming pregnant or giving birth they say "Oh, what a blessing," or "I've been blessed with three children." So, in turn, if God doesn't "bless" you with a child does that mean you're cursed? Of course not! His blessings are just coming in a different way. But I think Christian women with infertility feel this way. It might also be because there are so many ethical and theological questions that go along with infertility. How far is too far? How much treatment is too much treatment? You're just "playing God." If God had wanted you to have a child, you'd get pregnant so it must not be His will. Yet, in a complete contradiction to this, we eagerly support adoption. So if by not getting pregnant it's not God's will for us to be parents, than how is adopting a child not "playing God?" We live in a world of contradictions. As Christians, of course, I do believe that there are limits to infertility treatments. Believing a life is a life from the moment of conception, we should not subscribe to any type of treatment that causes an embryo or 12 to be destroyed or abandoned.

God's plan is so unique for each of us. Like I said, I thought I was the only one dealing with infertility until I started opening my big mouth! Within a couple of days (literally) I found out about 3 close friends who had been struggling with infertility for years. This was about a year ago. Well as of today, God has revealed his unique plan for at least 3 families dealing with infertilty. A couple of months ago, our friends Valerie and Steven gave birth to twins!!! Last month, as you obviously know, Shannon and I found out we're pregnant! And today, our friends LeAnn and Hudson welcomed home a daughter born on Friday and adopted into their family today! HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD! How unique his plan and love for us!
