BIG changes! As if having our first child wasn't quite life changing enough, we have chosen (or it was chosen for us) this time to also purchase our first house!
Tonight we signed the papers to put a contract on a house in Saginaw, Texas which is just north of Fort Worth. It's only a couple of miles further from work for me but is just minutes from Shannon's work. It's the same distance to church. It's in the same school district he works in. We officially began our home search just two Saturday's ago, first meeting with a mortgage guy and getting pre-approved and then having our realtor show us 3 houses we were interested in. This was the second house. We joked that afternoon that it was like House Hunters and our realtor asked us which one of the 3 we were choosing! When we called her last Monday and told her we wanted house #2, she said she had just been joking and we could really go see more houses! We have been driving by houses on weekends and looking online for months so we knew what was in the area and what we were looking for. The house was built in 1996, actually has a tree in the yard (unusual for TX), and is on a quiet road with a huge park at the end of the street. We were looking for a 3BR/2BA 1500 sq.ft house (cause that's what was in our price range) and we found this one for the same price and it's 4BR/2BA and 1900+ sq.ft. It seems to be in really good condition. It was a foreclosure and we are getting it for $20,000 less than the tax appraisal... so good deal, too!
There are some cosmetic things that need to be done, but nothing horrible like paisly mauve wallpaper that can't be lived with! (Well, except for the "scary" room which will have to be painted and annointed with oil... a suspected teen's artwork gone out of control!) We will be getting a home inspection in the next few days, so hopefully that will go well. Our closing date is set for March 27th (exactly 3 weeks before my due date). Fortunately or unfortunately, we have to give our landlord a 60 day notice so we will have over a month after closing to move out of our apartment. Enough about the house...
The pic of Shannon and me is from our first baby shower at Shannon's school. It was so nice and they were very sweet to do that for us. We got some really great things for the baby, the one's that pushed me over the emotional edge were these diaper burp clothes that were embroidered with Adalynne's name. TOO CUTE! It's so exciting to be getting things together and realizing that she's going to be here soon! The cats are also enjoying the empty boxes from some of the larger gifts! We can't wait to be in the new house so we can set the nursery up, finally! No sense in doing it now!
For the last week or so, I was missing my ankles. I don't know where they went, they must have been on vacation. Thankfully, they showed up again today. I had gained 3 pounds in 10 days. WOW! And I sure felt every last ounce. My doc reassured me yesterday that I was still doing great and gave tips to get the swelling down. Today, Adalynne has learned a new trick... The Kidney Twist. It feels like she's taking my right kidney and twisting it around and around. I hurt on the right side of my back, where you would hurt with a kidney stone, and it radiates all the way up to my face on that side. I can't stretch far enough. I think I'm just running out of room. I hope she starts to fall forward and pooch out more instead of push her way up. I'm carrying very high and there's no more room up there. It's a good thing I had my gallbladder out a couple of years ago... made space for a foot!
We have our all day childbirth class this Saturday. We'll finally get to see the hospital and L&D Dept. We're not real sure what to expect from the class. We'll let you know how it goes!
